HOW WILL NECS BE FUNDED?

Once NECS is fully operational, the system will be self-funding from the subscriber fees charged. However, in its early stages, the initiative will need a capital injection of funds.

A Draft NECS Funding Model is being developed with various proposals for the initial capital investment. The model will be based on assumptions regarding market size, take up rates of jurisdictions and industry users, transaction volumes, service delivery costs, and funding required to provision the system and support it in the early stages.

Ideally funding would come from the State and Territory jurisdictions and it is hoped that the Australian Government may also provide funding.
