Using NECS – An Overview

NECS Operations are set out in detail in the NECS Operations Description (NOD).

The NECS is being designed to create an easy way for practitioners to complete the lodgment and settlement elements of the conveyancing process online.

The NOD is under consultation. We encourage you to read the full NOD.

There are four main functionalities of the NECS:

  1. user identification, accreditation and training
  2. system access and usage
  3. lodgment process and security
  4. settlement process and payments

These four functionalities of NECS enable you, the practitioner, to conduct online lodgment and settlement in NECS. There are four key steps in using NECS:

  1. Obtain access to NECS
  2. Pre-transaction steps with your Client
  3. Create and configure a workspace in NECS
  4. Complete a workspace in NECS – lodgment and settlement

Click on each of the above links for more information about each step of the process.

It is important to note that the NECS does not propose to cover:

  • preparation and exchange of contracts for sale
  • pre-settlement investigations
  • procurement of any insurances required by purchasers
  • creation of loan documentation
  • processes for examining and registering instruments once lodged with a Land Registry.
