Birth of NECS
During 2005, discussions were held between relevant national stakeholders about the best way to develop a national electronic conveyancing solution for Australia. These stakeholders included State and Territory land agencies, State and Territory revenue offices, financial institutions and other lenders, solicitors and conveyancers, as well as conveyancing and mortgage processing service and infrastructure providers.
In August 2005, the State and Territory governments established the National Electronic Conveyancing Office to manage the joint government and industry initiative.
In November 2005, the National Steering Committee was formed and charged with the task of developing and implementing a National Electronic Conveyancing System (NECS) for Australia.
