Conveyancing: What's NECS?

Presentation for the Registering the World Conference in Dublin in 2007
The Property Registration Authority of Ireland recently hosted an international conference in Dublin on land registration. Entitled Registering the World, it attracted over 200 delegates from land administrations all over the world. Details can be found at www.prai.ie.
There was a major focus on international developments in electronic conveyancing. Executive Director of the National Office, Simon Libbis, was invited to speak at the conference about the Australian position. The presentation and paper are on our website.
A preliminary event to the conference was a briefing to the local Irish conveyancing industry entitled E-Conveyancing and E-Registration in the common law world – A Discussion Forum. Australia was among seven countries invited to participate. The National Business Model for NECS as explained by Simon Libbis attracted a lot of interest.

Presentation to the Standing Committee of Attorneys-General (SCAG)
On 9 November the Executive Director of the National Office, Simon Libbis, provided a briefing to the meeting of all Australian Attorneys-General in Fremantle. He was introduced by Federal Attorney-General, The Hon Phillip Ruddock, who expressed strong support for the national approach to electronic conveyancing. Mr Ruddock encouraged all jurisdictions to continue their active involvement in the national initiative as it has the potential to deliver significant benefits to industry, government and the community.
